Long Time Flyers fans Know

You do not even have to turn the TV on today, if you are a realistic Flyers fan, to know that the Devils are going to win … and likely easily. Expect Forsberg to sit this one out because he played one game so he is due for another break.

The Flyers marketing folks are running ads for playoff tix based around an interesting theme: “heart.” Not sure who they think they are kidding, but more power to them if they can pull it off. Kind of funny that they would choose heart as a theme.

We should be honest about the Flyers though, absent any and all hyped up high-dollar ad campaigns: This team has no heart. It has no leader. It has no identity. It has no consistent will to win. There is no need to build any ad campaign around that because they Flyers do it game in and game out.

Someone email me the score when it is over because I am not watching the game. The good thing I guess about knowing the Flyers is knowing when to not even bother watching the game(s) because you can predict the outcome with measured success. But that is also the bad thing about being a Flyers fan because you find yourself doing it year after year, time after time. Eventually, you just tune them out. Maybe it is time to bet against them in key games and make some money …

Hey Hitch, get ready to tell the media after the buzzer that these games do not mean much and the Flyers have been playing well and Esche kept you in the game. Why you keep playing Esche is a mystery in itself. I think your B.S. has about run its course here in Philly. Too soft.

(Sigh)….I’m sure you’ve been watching the Flyers for at least ten more years than I have, so I supposed it’s easier for you to naysay so easily. I’m still not giving up on them yet, this is the best team we’ve had in a while. C’mon, Bully…as Philly sports fans, we stick with our teams through thick and thin (except for the Sixers). I don’t think you believe what you’re saying when you accuse the Flyers of having no heart. Did you see the way we went after Hollweg after he hardly tapped Forsberg? I sure won’t be suprised when we go deep into the playoffs, hopefully your faith will be restored by then.

The Flyers I will have to agree are toast. Hitchcock and Clarke should be shit canned. What a joke with Esche attacking teammates after he was pulled … can you say panic? Too many Tasteycakes for the coach, not enough wins.

Hitchcock has never been in a real hockey market like Philly and the pressure is starting to get to him. He should use his anger against his team. I predict the Flyers are done after 1 playoff round no matter who they face. This team has played like shit since Xmas break and the wheels are coming off. It’s not about being a loyal fan … it’s about stepping outside of that netherworld of support to take a realistic view of the situation. You cannot limp into the playoffs and expect to prosper. Hitchcock has failed in this regard yet again. The Flyers are mentally soft and soon will put us all out of our misery. Ever wonder why the Avalanche didn’t fight to keep Forsberg?

Not enough wins? What the fuck do the Flyers have to do around here to get ANY credit, besides lose their captain, lose 400 man games to injury, and still have 99 fucking points? You guys both make me sick. You’re the kinda guys that’ll shit on the Flyers when they lose a fucking game to the Devils, but then say you’ve been die hard fans your whole entire lives once they win the cup. You’re either on or off, pick one and stick with it. None of this bandwagon bullshit flies around here.

For some it may be that simple. Either in or out. But that changes when you’re season ticket bill does not match the effort on the ice. There are a couple varying levels of fans: TV fans that catch a live game here and there and then folks that underwrite the club via season tickets and have to reach into their pockets to fund the hockey club. When you have to spend thousands of dollars upfront and the Flyers show up and play without heart, this is what angers people. They are mad because they had to pay for that slop effort … A solid effort is the only acceptable hockey in Philadelphia, win or lose. Just because Peter the Groin is out of the lineup, it is not a fucking vacation for the team. And this is wht whether it’s Forsberg or Lindros, when you depend on any other player to carry you, then you’re fucked. Be a man and play like a man. Let me know when the Flyers bandwagon gets moving and I may just jump on it. But it has been parked since January.

I totally understand where you are coming from. If I had the money, I’d have season tix too, and probly be reeling when I pay good money and see them play inconsistently. However, I’m your typical struggling college kid, who watches every game with his buddies and lives and dies with this team. If the Flyers lose, I get mad and flip at the smallest shit just cause the team can’t hear me when I yell at them. Last year during the lockout I went into denial cause I had to watch the fucking Sixers. I’m just saying that, under the circumstances, the Flyers have had a hell of a year. 29 out of 30 go home disappointed, so IF it’s the Flyers, we can’t just write them off like some gutless team. I pray, for everyone’s sake, that they play to their potential in the playoffs, cause lord knows not even Brodeur would be able to stop them.
P.S.- If, next season, you find that they still aren’t worth the price of admission, give me a ring and I’ll see if I can’t relieve you of a few of those tickets.
