Just when you think the Bruins — and the NHL for that matter — have hit a new low … they do it again.

They will pay Chara $7.5 million a year for the next five years. No word yet on whether Bruins management will be bidding on the Brooklyn Bridge.

You have to feel bad for Bruins fans. Chara is good but he’s not $7.5 million good and nowhere near it. So he makes more than Chris Pronger?

Senseless.

Next, the Bruins will be offering Martin LaPointe $5.5 million a year — wait, they already did that.

Isn’t this the type of signing and crazed owner mentality that forced the NHL to shut its doors for an entire season?

One thing is for damn sure: No cup for Chara for at least 5 yars.
