Alfred says:
“To the average person, that’s still a high salary. But hockey players are not average people. They’re skilled entertainers who, not long ago, commanded a lot more than they’re getting now.”
Skilled entertainer?! You mean the ice capades? You mean Jaromir Jagr. Shiiiittt!
I have two big problems with that article
1) Al Strachan is a PA suck-up. And it makes sense … he’s burned enough bridges over the years simply by being his rotten-tart self. I would rather listen to Al Roker talk about hockey than Al Strachan. It’s like listening brakes squeal.
2) If the entertainers aren’t happy with their entertainment pay then they can rot. I would rather watch 22 pluggers with heart and a desperate fear of losing, battle it out on the ice than see overpaid ice dancers wow us with stick handling, footwork, puck controll and fancy sports cars. There is one thing that Bettman, Daly and the NHL have been very, very good at … and this was crushing the life out of the arrogant PA. Hallelulyah!
