All choked up and every place to go …
They should have press conferences for long time season ticket holders that “retire.” This would make more sense and offer better entertainment. Ask the same questions to the folks that have been footing the bills for years.
Kind of sick of seeing athletes today choked up about having to retire … so worried about the future. In the old days, players just retired. There was no press conference. Then they got jobs selling insurance or real estate or as hockey scouts or limo drivers because they had to keep working in order to earn a living.
Today, what are you so friggin’ choked up about? You’re set for life. Yes Primeau, this means you too. He was paid $3 million last year to work out and try to get back on the ice and he has more of his $6 million contract coming to him plus a big fat insurance policy and all the cash he’s already raked in.
I like Keith and I’m just using him as an example, but just once I’d like to see a retiring multi-millionaire athlete answer the questions at the press conference with a taste of reality.
Reporter: “Do you think you will be able to cope with not playing the game any longer?”
Athlete: “Ever been to a children’s hospital? You want to see some incredible people cope with true adversity? Not being able to play a game is one thing, but it is a small bump in the scope of reality. There are people in this life with real problems. Not being able to lace your skates up and play and feel like a kid everytime you’re on the ice — and be paid millions to do it — is not one of them.”
