It’s like 3:30 am and I’m putting another edition of the Bully to bed, cutting videos etc. for the new day.

I am watching the 2006 Hockey Hall of Fame Induction ceremony and Patrick Roy is at the podium. Trouble is that he is speaking French through the whole thing, peppering a little English in here and there.

When he retired in Denver (a U.S. city where English is spoken), his retirement press conference was in English. Now that he owns a junior team in Quebec, I guess he’s sticking with French.

If you’re from Denver and had a feed to the ceremony, and tuned in to see what he had to say, I guess you would be pretty disappointed unless you can understand French. The bigger hockey audience - in Canada and the U.S. - speaks English.

The whole thing seems weird, but then again so does Roy. I expect the media will tap dance around it but it came off as unwarranted arrogance.

Maybe I’m just an American pig?

Hopefully Martin Brodeur, another native Quebecer, will speak English for his fans in New Jersey and beyond when he shatters all this weirdo’s records and enters the HOF.

By the way: In English, it’s ROY (rhymes with toy), not Wah.
