If a Tree Falls in Newark, NJ

The classic scientific debate: If a tree falls in the woods but no one is there to hear it, did it actually make a sound?

The debate may rage on for eternity.

When applying the foundation of this debate to pro hockey, I figure it applies to the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ - the new home of the Devils and a beautiful brand new facility as well.

Parallel debate: If the Devils play in Newark and only 7,000 fans show up, does it really matter what rink they play in?

When you watch the Devils play at home, the venue has changed to the Pru Center but the empty seats throughout the rink have not changed.

Yet the team sits in first place in the division but still cannot draw sell outs of even the lower bowl at an incredible, clean venue (unlike it’s old digs in the swamp).

Hate them or not, you can’t question the success of the Devils as a franchise and Lou L’s hockey brain. The results are impressive and historic with its Cup runs and wins in the last 15 years.

What you have to question though are the Devils fans. Team is in 1st place and the seats are empty. It’s just like old times in East Rutherford. Makes no sense.
