Circulation Decline Linked to Newspaper Gobots
Newspaper circulation has been on the decline for a decade, largely because folks no longer trust what they read. That’s the death knell for the industry.
When Bully left the business in 1996, it wasn’t that way. But I could see it heading that way though I had no benchmark for believing it. Only a hunch.
Still though it is not hard to wonder why. An example would be the coverage of the Flyers in every newspaper in Philly and its suburbs today and within the last week. Not one reporter has even mentioned the fact that the Flyers might not make the playoffs.
Every story today is based on the alleged fact that they are already in the playoffs. Yet when I talk to most fans, they are fairly sure that these clowns (Flyers clowns, not the press clowns) will not make the playoffs. At best, fans are apprehensive and nervous that the Flyers will not be playing after Sunday.
Only Daily News columnist Sam Donnellon has blasted the team recently for its lackluster play and effort.
The rest of the reporters who cover the team might as well be on the Flyers PR payroll … which, like the players and coaches, would mean you would stink at your job anyway, so what’s the difference …
Eklund has more scoops than you rusted gobots. LOL.
