Snider Reminds Pen’s Fans of Ugly History
It will be interesting in Bully’s house for the next couple weeks.
Oldest son is a Penguins fan, youngest a Red Wings loyalist. Then there’s me, I still dig the Flyers. Not sure why they do not like the Flyers but at least they are free to back whatever team they want … it’s cool either way.
I think the youngest guy might be laughing all the way to the bank when the Cup is hoisted. But before that, there’s a matter of the battle of Pennsylvania to settle.
I find myself disliking the Penguins as I watch them get break after break every game. Power plays out the ying yang. It’s tough to like a team that is handed opportunities all the time.
Props to Ed Snider this week. I think what he said really hits the nail on the head.
Snider noted that four straight last-place finishes (2002-06) rewarded the Pens with their current crop of stars.
‘’Let’s face it, you get rewarded for being the worst team in the league,'’ Snider said earlier this week, ‘’so Pittsburgh has all these great players for being lousy for so many years. That’s the part I don’t like so much.'’
It’s funny and true.
Plus there’s still a large part of me that believes the Crosby draft lottery was fixed to save Mario’s franchise. Just all fits together too nicely to swallow. It can’t be proven anyway … but you have to wonder.
Regardless, the hockey gods have spoken: The Penguins will not get to dodge the Flyers in the playoffs like they did by “drawing” the Sens in the first round. And no matter what they say, they know that’s what they did. And it’s in their heads and now they have to dance a dance they wanted to avoid.
No such luck.
