I have not been to a pro hockey game in 18 months so I got some dudes together for the Flyers v Islanders preseason tilt last night. Was preseason but still a hockey game, so what the hell. Beer tastes better at a game than at a bar, so preseason or not, it’s a great excuse to get the hell out of the house.

I’m hoping it’s just the preseason and the fucking refs will swallow their whistles when the puck drops for real a week from today. The crap they were calling penalties, well it was akin to watching the Swedish Elite League. When your minor hockey like the AHL and juniors like OHL are more entertaining and hard hitting than the NHL at a fraction of the price … we all see where this is going.

The game is dumbed down big time and boring as hell. We’ll be covering more junior and minor games on The Bully this season if this keeps up. No one hits anyone any more. I think there was one scrum. The slot looked like a parking lot. And no one did anything about it. I know Scott Stevens made the right decision to hang em’ up. Mario on the other hand could play another decade.

If you’re pumped for the return of the NHL … you likely will get pissed at what you’re about to see, unless you’re a Mario-loving sissy to begin with. There is no way for the corporate dweebs to spin shitty hockey. What the lockout hasn’t already killed, Bettman’s concept du jour likely will finish off.
