It’s nearly April and that means the sports media has to collectively decide who they are going to back as Cup winners and the best thing to do once this is done is to bet everything against whomever they annoint.

It looks like the early media fave is the Hurricanes. I like all the stories about how Carolina “won” the trade deadline. Wasn’t aware there was a contest there or any clear-cut winner or loser in making a trade to benefit your team. I’d say giving up 3 players for the likes of Mark Recchi and 2 or 3 more for Doug “Dead” Weight would catagorize Carolina as a clear loser. Surprised they didn’t yank Ron Francis’ sweater from the rafters and coax him to come back for their big cup run.

Recchi? Wasn’t he part of all those “talented” Flyers teams that couldn’t score a goal in the playoffs year after year? Yeah, thought so.

My prediction: Carolina goes nowehere … if for no other reason than the media says otherwise. You’d think people would catch on after a few years how wrong these media clowns are on a consistent basis. Hell, they were calling for a Canadiens cup winner in November … how’s that coming along???
