Donald Frog Legs

Whose got stronger legs?  Brashear or Kermit the Frog?

Brashear ends up on his ass too many times, laying next to his gloves. Still tough but nowhere near what he used to be. It’s disappointing because he used to be very solid, but now … just another disappointment in the NHL…

You’re right, he’s not what he used to be, but what other options do the Flyers have? We traded Fedoruk and Gratton. Richards is good for one every now and then but he’s too good to spend 100+ minutes in the box. What kind of free agent enforcers are available at the end of the year?

    Sign Yanni.

Because he lost a fight to Cairns? Correction - because Carins got two shots in at the end of a tough fight? Come on people. Brashear is still one of the top 5 enforcers in the league. Maybe Laraque is #1, while a guys like Simon and McGratton are right up there with Brashear.

9 out of 10 fighters will fold their tent when Brashear starts in with the quick jackhammer lefts. But a big neanderfuck like Cairns who stands 6-6, can take a punch and swings from the nosebleeds can always get a lucky shot in - Enrico Ciccone-style.

Maybe my favorite enforcer is Fedoruk because he obeys the code so strictly and is all about honor. But what makes Brashear a good enforcer is he’s mean and stupid and he will happily beat you down just to shame you.

I remember when Brashear was starting out with the Habs years ago. He could barely win a fight against a guy like Neely, and on one occasion it actually looked like he was backpedalling to get away from Sandy McCarthy (thought I guess he was just trying to buy time to get his elbow pad off). It all changed when he hit the weight room while living in Vancouver.

Remember earlier this season when he shamed Colton Orr?

I will say this. Brashear is as cocky as they come, it was good to see him get a tast of his own medicine.

Get a taste of his own medicine? Just what might that be? He’s all about doing his business, he hates guys who make a spectacle out of it (I.E. McGratten, and Cairns who made it look like he destroyed Brash when he took a handful of shots himself). I was just saying that Brashear isn’t what he used to be…that doesn’t mean that he’s no good anymore. The facts are that he’s getting old and he’s not gonna be able to keep up anymore. The Flyers are gonna have to fill his shoes, and they’re big ones at that.

as far as the original question goes, i’ll take Brash. the new rules have made him a dying breed, but he still wins battles on the boards. someone throws a soft dump-in into the corner, he’ll get it, whether there’s 1 or 2 defensemen. he’s not Wayne as far as finesse goes, but the fighting thing is a bonus, even though everyone knows he’s out there to thug it up. Hitch must still think he’s an enforcer since he threw the Minn. rook on his line to protect him.
i think that in the next 2 years, his role will become simplified, but more profound… next year, everyone will have had their experiences with the “new” refs, and while they won’t be able to get away with as much as before, they will be able to get away with something extremely obscene every blue moon, and that’s where i want him. that left handed sledge on meth will prevail. everyone needs a thug. have you had your thug today?
